Lake Whitney State Park

Lake Whitney State Park sits on the eastern shore of Lake Whitney, a 23,560-acre reservoir on the Brazos River. The park features limestone bluffs, a swimming beach, and excellent striped bass and white bass fishing. Its central location between Austin, Dallas, and Waco makes it a popular weekend destination.

When to Go

March through October. Spring white bass runs draw big crowds. Summer weekends require advance booking.

  • Spring white bass run (February-April) is legendary on Lake Whitney
  • The swimming beach is excellent for families
  • You can actually fly in and camp — there is a small grass airstrip in the park
  • The limestone bluffs at sunset are worth hiking to
