Dog Canyon is a small, forested campground tucked into a secluded canyon on the north side of Guadalupe Mountains National Park at 6,300 feet, reached from the New Mexico side at the end of NM Highway 137. It is a 70-mile drive from Carlsbad, New Mexico, the nearest town, and about two hours from the Pine Springs Visitor Center on the Texas side. The quiet setting is good for relaxing, wildlife watching, and hiking, with trails from the campground climbing to Lost Peak and Marcus Overlook. The campground is open year-round and is busiest in spring and fall.
