When to Go

March through November. Summer weekends are hot but the river keeps you cool. Spring and fall are ideal.

Tips

  • Bring a tube and float the river — it is clear, cool, and beautiful
  • Watch the wild turkey roost at dusk from the observation blind (fall-winter)
  • Golden-cheeked warblers nest here in spring — bring binoculars
  • The Buck Pasture walk-in sites along the river are some of the best tent sites in Texas
