San Angelo State Park

San Angelo State Park encompasses over 7,000 acres on the shores of O.C. Fisher Reservoir and the North Concho River. The park features official Texas Longhorn and bison herds, diverse habitats from mesquite grassland to river bottoms, and excellent mountain biking. When the reservoir is full, the fishing and boating are outstanding.

When to Go

October through April. Summer is hot but manageable. Lake levels vary dramatically with drought.

Tips

  • Drive through the park to see the Longhorn and bison herds
  • The mountain biking trail system is one of the best in West Texas
  • Check reservoir levels before planning boating — drought can lower it significantly
  • San Angelo has a surprisingly vibrant food and arts scene
