Fort Parker State Park

Fort Parker State Park sits along the Navasota River and Springfield Lake, surrounded by bottomland hardwoods. The CCC-built park features historic stone structures, excellent paddling on the river, and a peaceful lake. It is also home to one of the oldest Confederate Reunion Grounds in Texas.

When to Go

March through November. Rarely sells out. A reliable option when other Central Texas parks are full.

Tips

  • Paddle the Navasota River for a different perspective — put in at the park
  • The CCC stonework is beautiful — especially the stone dam
  • Springfield Lake has excellent crappie fishing in spring
  • Combine with a visit to the Confederate Reunion Grounds historic site
