The park publishes 17 total sites near Del Rio, about 4 hours 30 minutes from Austin, and a $5 entrance fee. Camp.land does not run alerts for Texas parks. The Devils River is one of the most pristine spring-fed rivers in Texas. The natural area protects over 37,000 acres across two units, Del Norte and Dan A. Hughes, and keeps amenities minimal on purpose. Camping is primitive only. Every stay is by reservation. You pack in everything, including water. There is no potable water in the park. The two units are very far apart. Confirm which one your reservation is for before you drive.
Every site type at Devils River State Natural Area releases on the same schedule: five months out at 8 a.m. Central on ReserveAmerica. The park is closed Tuesday through Thursday year-round. The entrance gate runs 8 a.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Monday. Arrive before 4 p.m. There is no check-in after that, at either unit. High-clearance vehicles are recommended. The roads in are rough. A Devils River Access Permit ($10) is required for river access and the paddler camps on downriver trips.

Families at Devils River should book a drive-up site at the Dan A. Hughes Unit: tent pad, bear box, and composting toilets nearby. The two hike-in sites at Del Norte sit 1.5 to 2 miles from the River Gate parking area, so nobody drives past your tent. Small self-contained trailers and motorhomes 16 feet or less can use the drive-up sites. Groups who want walls take the Del Norte bunkhouse.
Devils River State Natural Area does not list standard park-owned cabins. The bunkhouse is the roofed option. Pack out all trash. Highlights include over 25 miles of hiking and biking trails, multi-day paddling for experienced paddlers, weekly ranger tours to pictograph shelters, and dark-sky stargazing. Missed the five-month release at Devils River State Natural Area? Cancellations still happen. Cancelled sites go straight back into ReserveAmerica, where anyone can book them. The realistic window to check is two to four weeks before your date, when early cancellation penalties are still low enough that fence-sitters bail.
Because Devils River is a Texas state natural area, there is no Camp.land alert for it. Check ReserveAmerica directly in that two-to-four-week window. Midweek is not a fallback here. The park is closed Tuesday through Thursday. Friday-to-Monday is the only stay pattern.

Spring and fall are prime time at Devils River State Natural Area: the river runs clear and the desert is livable. Summers are brutally hot. July highs average 98 degrees. That is the easier booking season only because the heat thins the crowd.
