How Does the Texas State Park Reservation System Work?

Texas state parks use ReserveAmerica (texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com) for all campsite reservations. Here is how the system works from start to finish.

Creating an Account

Create your ReserveAmerica account before you need it — not the night reservations open. The process takes 5 minutes but the system can be slow under heavy load. Save your payment info in advance.

The Booking Window

Reservations open exactly 5 months (150 days) in advance at 8 a.m. Central. For popular parks, this is the only reliable way to get a weekend site during peak season. Set a calendar alert.

Fees

  • Campsite fee: $10-$30/night depending on hookups and park
  • Day pass: $3-$8 per person for non-campers (varies by park)
  • Annual pass: $70 — waives entrance fees for everyone in your vehicle

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel any campsite reservation. Cancellations made 5 or more days before arrival incur a $10 administrative fee; the remainder is refunded. Cancellations within 5 days carry a $10-per-night penalty (maximum $50). No-shows forfeit the full amount. These penalties are modest enough that cancellations happen constantly — and why Camp.land alerts are especially effective in the days before a trip.

Walk-Up Sites

Some parks hold back a portion of sites for walk-up campers — people who show up at the gate without a reservation. Policies vary by park. Call ahead to check current walk-up availability before making the drive.
