Rocky Mountain is the fuller trip: elk in the mornings, Trail Ridge Road, and a real gateway town in Estes Park when the kids need pizza. Great Sand Dunes is a tighter, stranger wonder: hike the dunes at dawn before the sand heats up, splash Medano Creek in spring, and be done in a day or two. Both are high elevation, so pack layers even in July.
