Lodgepole Campground is the most convenient base in Sequoia National Park — close to the General Sherman Tree, the largest tree by volume on Earth — and it books through recreation.gov on a rolling reservation window. Summer dates, especially June through August, can sell out within minutes of releasing. If you miss it, cancellations happen constantly as other travelers change plans, and those released sites post back to recreation.gov in real time. Camp.land watches Lodgepole around the clock and emails you the moment a site opens.
Here is how booking actually works, what the campground's 201 sites look like, and what to do if it is sold out for your dates.
Lodgepole sits along the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River, with a visitor center, market, and shuttle stop right at the campground. That makes it one of the most convenient bases in the park — the in-park shuttle stops here in season, a good way to reach General Sherman and other sights without hunting for parking, and the Tokopah Falls trailhead is an easy walk from the campground, a good short hike for families.
Reservations open on a rolling window on recreation.gov, and the exact release schedule shifts, so check Lodgepole's booking page directly before planning around a specific date. Summer, June through August, is the busiest stretch and books out fast given the proximity to General Sherman Tree; fall offers a quieter visit with fewer crowds and better odds of finding an open site.
The campground has 201 total sites split into four types: 77 standard no-hookup sites, 53 tent-only sites in Upper Lodgepole, 52 walk-to sites also in Upper Lodgepole, and 19 RV-designated sites. There are no hookups anywhere in the campground, though the on-site market covers most basics. The Marble Fork can run cold and fast in early summer from snowmelt, so use caution near the river.
With 201 sites serving the campground closest to the world's largest tree, Lodgepole sells out fast every summer. But cancellations happen just as constantly — plans change, and released sites go straight back into the recreation.gov system.
Camp.land watches Lodgepole specifically and emails you the instant a site opens up, whether that is a fresh release or a last-minute cancellation. You do not have to sit there refreshing recreation.gov for weeks — we do that part.

Summer is Lodgepole's peak season and the hardest time to land a site, driven almost entirely by the campground's proximity to General Sherman. If your schedule allows a fall trip, you will find a quieter park, fewer crowds on the trails, and meaningfully better odds of getting a reservation without needing a cancellation at all.
Three Rivers, at the park's entrance, has cabins and vacation rentals if you want a base outside the campground, or as a backup plan if Lodgepole does not come through for your dates.
